What is the most attractive accent in the world has been a hotly contested issue for as long as time itself… I’m guessing. However, which accents make men and women weak at the knees may surprise you. If you thought French accents hold the universal title of the ‘language of love’, they don’t.
At least not anymore…
In a recent study conducted by the Knowledge Academy, 2500 male and female respondents, split evenly, were asked to rank accents in order of preference. Here were the results:
Accents favoured by women
- Scottish 86%
- Irish 77%
- Italian 68%
- French 61%
- Spanish 56%
- Brazilian Portuguese 48%
- Queen’s English 47%
- Australian 35%
- South African 29%
- Mexican 23%
Accents favoured by men
- Spanish 88%
- Brazilian Portuguese 76%
- Australian 72%
- French 69%
- American 62%
- Kiwi 54%
- Czech 47%
- Italian 43%
- Mexican 31%
- Scottish 29%
Perhaps unsurprisingly our homegrown Australian accent didn’t yield first place with the Scottish beating us to the punch. However, apparently the sexiest accent according to men is the ever-lovely Spanish accent.
So whether or not you think accents have an influence over people’s potential partner, hiring decisions or otherwise, people DO have preferences. For example, the charm of the Irish accent appeals to many whilst Mexican accents are associated with other things entirely. Refining, changing, or dampening your accent will have an effect on your professional and romantic life.
That’s where we come in…
