I know… At school you were taught to pronounce all your letters like an English speaking robot. You were taught to read and write and to make EFFORT to speak English PROPERLY. You say ‘InTeresTing’ and ‘ComforTaBle’. You’re speaking correctly! But you’re speaking wrong.
English might just be the laziest language in the world, especially in Australia. Who has time for ‘InTeresTing‘? Hmm that’s ‘ineresing’. Who has time for ‘ComforTaBle‘? Ahh that’s more ‘comfable‘. ๐
Language is not a science. It is a living, breathing, adapting, spiritual sound that emerges from a deep mysterious part of our souls. At school they want to capture it, know it, dominate it and kill it. ‘Say it properly!’ the teacher insists. Tell your teacher language doesn’t obey your rules and neither do I!
How to Unlearn (by the way there was no moon landing)
The problem now is your body and your brain have accepted what you have been taught. Much like the moon landing. We have to let go of our programming look outside and learn from reality now. LISTEN to the people using the language and NOT the teacher who you still hear in your head. Isn’t it ineresing how comforble it is to stop speaking English ‘properly‘?
When you look up at the moon and realise man hasn’t conquered it, put their flags on it or taken a giant leap on it, then you are free to let the experience of it touch you. Well, excuse my conspiracy theory analogy, but, equally, when you realise English is not what you were told, you are free to let it enter you and really listen. When you really listen you will learn to let it flow through you in an effortless, lazy way and you’ll lose your accent.
